Why I Moved to Vietnam: A Leap of Faith, A New Chapter
If you told me a year ago that I’d be living in Vietnam, sipping my favourite now – coconut coffee and helping my son chase his basketball dreams across Asia – I would’ve laughed.
But here I am. A Trinidadian marketer, lecturer, and mom who decided to pack up life as I knew it and start fresh on the other side of the world.
This move wasn’t impulsive – it was deeply personal. It came from grief, reflection, and a quiet conviction that change, though uncomfortable, can be the greatest teacher of all.

When “Home” Became Heavy
Earlier this year, I lost my father, one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever faced.
Even months later, home still felt filled with him. I’d catch myself expecting him to walk around the corner, dragging his slippers with that smile on his face — ready to put his two cents into whatever conversation was going on.
He was a “subject matter expert” in all things (or so he believed 😅).
That loss shifted something in me. It reminded me how fragile time is and how important it is to keep living, even when your heart is heavy.
A Mother’s Leap for Her Son’s Dream
My son loves basketball. Truly loves it.
I wanted him to experience the world through that passion – to play against athletes from everywhere, to see that greatness isn’t confined to one country.
Yes, the U.S. is known for basketball. But I’ve had friends who played different sports in Europe and Asia and said those experiences shaped them beyond the game itself.
So, I chose to give him a different kind of exposure – one that’s global, challenging, and deeply enriching.
Doing Business on My Own Terms
Back in 2013, I started my first boutique business — with no safety net, no corporate job, no backup plan, just faith.
After years of moving in and out of corporate life, I went back to full-time entrepreneurship in 2019.
And this time, I decided to do it my way.
The Caribbean consultancy market, while vibrant, can feel saturated and competitive. Sometimes it feels like running on a hamster wheel – busy, but not necessarily fulfilled.
I didn’t want to stay stuck in the cycle of “more” – more projects, more deadlines, more noise. I wanted meaning.
Stepping Into the Unknown
I’ve travelled across the Caribbean and Latin America, and visited the U.S. for work and leisure.
But I had never lived outside Trinidad and Tobago. Never immersed myself in a new culture, language, or pace of life.
When I realised my work was fully remote and I was teaching online, I asked myself: “What’s really holding me back?”
So I prayed. I asked God to be in front of this decision — to guide every step.
And He did.
Because the truth is, taking chances is the real essence of entrepreneurship. It’s not just about starting a business; it’s about starting again — with faith, curiosity, and courage.
Vietnam, like many Asian markets, has so much to offer. It’s vibrant, evolving, and full of opportunities to learn and grow.

What This Move Means to Me
This move to Vietnam isn’t just about location — it’s about expansion.
It’s about stepping into a season where I redefine what success and freedom look like. Where growth comes not from comfort, but from curiosity.
As a businesswoman and entrepreneur, I’ve learned that the world doesn’t reward hesitation — it rewards courage. The kind of courage that lets you bet on yourself, even when the path isn’t fully clear.
I’ve always wanted to build a business on my terms — one that aligns with my values, my lifestyle, and my vision for impact. This chapter is a reminder that it’s possible.
To every Caribbean entrepreneur reading this: you can design the life and business you want. You can build from anywhere. You can start again.
I don’t have it all figured out — but I know this: every leap begins with faith, and every new chapter begins with a single, intentional step forward.
Here’s to freedom, to growth, and to trusting that when you move boldly — the world moves with you.
